Ikariam Tips & Info

The most common reason for finding other colonies is to mine resources that don’t exist on your island. For example, you may start on an island which only has sulphur and wood; but what about the other three resources? That’s right, and in order to gather them from other islands you need a colony. Every colony is identical to one of your cities - like the one you started off with for example.
Other reasons may be to conquer the whole world, or simply to get away from daily attacks if the players you started on the island with are too strong.
Research Sea -Faring: Expansion
For this research you will also need to complete the following 5 researches:
After your expansion is fully researched, you need build the palace in your capital city!
You then get the following:
Tip: Remember that in order to be able to store all the resources required you will need to upgrade your warehosue!
The next step is to actually select the place where you want to found this colony in Ikariam! - Use the Show World view and select an island with your favorite resources. You will be able to select an island in which there is at least one free spot by only looking at the islands that have a number <16. 16 is the maximum number of cities so any island with fewer cities than that means that there is still one space left for you!
Once you’ve selected the spot, click on any yellow flag on the island, once again where you want your city to be found and follow the instructions. You will be asked if you want to transport your resources from your capital city. If you don’t yet fullfill all the requirements required to build this colony, you will be promoted and be told what it is that’s missing.
Once you have selected the place where you want to found your colony and gone through the procedure of inauguration
you have to wait for your five ships to arrive to your newly found colony with the resources and citizens. You can track the progress by clicking on the ship button on the menu at the top of the Ikariam window.
After everything has been shipped over, you treat this new colony as a new town; as the town you first started with for example! You have to build the same buildings again, etc.!
Well done, you now founded a new colony in Ikariam
.
NOTE: I received a few e-mails and comments from people who weren’t able to allocate workers in their colonies. To allocate workers in your colony to your newly found resource, be it marble, wine or crystals you have to select your new colony from the drop down menu:
After you select the new town in the new colony from the menu, you then click on Island View and on your resource. Now you will be able to gather resources for your new colony. Everytime you want to switch between cities, you must use this drop down menu.

[…] To move the capital you first need to colonize another island which means building a palace on this island. It’s important to note that building a new colony and palace is not cheap. A level one palace will cost about 600 wood whereas the sole founding of the colony costs 1250 wood, 12k gold, 40 citiziens and 5 transport ships. To find out what more you need to found a new colony in Ikariam and how exactly to do it, read the How To Form A Colony In Ikariam Guide. […]

Hello! I have 2 questions about new colonies?
1. will I be able to found the new colony everywhere on the worldmap or only in the range of my trading post?
2. will I be able to deliever things (crystal, vine, etc..) to my newly founded city from my original city always or only if the new city is in the range of my trading post?

I founded a colony, but I can’t allocate citizens to gather wood or the local resource (marble). Why is this so? Do I need anything special? Please help!
Posted by johnny s on 03.20.08 8:33 pm
Although each and every one of resources available in this game is important, remember that your basic building material is the marble, thus if you create a colony, try to do it on an island which provides you with marble:D
Secondly, you will need sulphur to create an army, it will be needed to recruit every basic unit, bear this in mind if you can’t live in peace with your neighbours =P
Cristal is very useful for research and upgrades for your weapons, therefore it is very important if you want to take advantage on your enemies.
Finally, wine is used only to boost up your citizens’ satisfaction and recruit cooks for your army, so it comes at the end, though you can make a profit by selling it=) If you manage to create a third colony (which requires both marble and cristals), you can establish it on a wine island.

how long does it take for a colony to be built?

Hi Nick!
First, I want to tell you that this site is awesome and it really helps me on the server I play. I just started to farm some towns like in your last tutorial >:).
I have a lil’ question about creating a second colony (3rd town), if you know about this.
Is it necessary to raise my palace level in my capital (town #1) to lvl2, or is it ok just to build a lvl1 palace in my first colony (town #2) and colonize from there?
Thanks

Hey, does anyone know why i have really high expenses when i dont have an army at that colony? Is it some sort of tax thing since its not my capital? Cheers
Posted by Keva1989 on 03.26.08 5:37 pm
Rob, if you have an army in your capital city (you surely do) the amount of golds required to pay it is divided propertionnaly to in all your towns, meaning a town with a city hall lvl 10 will pay more than a lvl 1 city.
Wally, it will be built when your ships arrive there.
help!, build a dock in your colony, and you have a quick link to sending ressources to yoru other cities when you double click it.

Maximum amount of building material for a warehouse achievable in plausibble time (level 16 ) is ONLY 80 000).
That means, that you can store material only for palce level 4, also you can build ONLY 4 colonies !
You cannot store enough material for any higher palace!?
This is absurd and the game is made in this point absolutly stupid.
What means warehouse building time 108189D 19m for warehouse level 32 ???
(All information according to FAQ, if I am wrong, correct me)

are the gold and resources earned in your capital usable by the colony? or are they independent from each other?

@arton build 4 palaces in your 4 colonies and u can make 16 extra colonies making 20 (x4 makes 80 etc.)

It should be instant - check your junk mail folder
Posted by ikariamlover on 05.02.08 2:08 pm
Once you found your colony, you go to the menu with the list of town names, click the name of your colony, go the island view and click on the wood or luxury resource[wine, Sulphur, Crystal, Marble] and comfirm the number of workers, resource number per hour, etc.

That’s wrong! Wine keeps your population growing faster. Wine colonies grow the fastest of all. The more wine you have the happier they are and the faster your colony grows.
Silly person! Wine is, in my mind, the most important colony to get if you don’t have it already.

With “confirming your e-mail adress”. They mean “click on the link of the mail we’ve send you on registration”.
It probably ended up in the junk / trunk.
Ask a resend if so, click on the url otherwise.

MOST IMPORTANT THING IN FOUNDING A NEW COLONY
The most important thing is, avoid the corruption!.
To completely avoid the corruption just upgrade your governor resident and palace into appropriate level.
Well let me teach you about this palace & governor level.
Palace = governor resident
The difference is Palace is your main/home land
and governor resident build in your another sub island.
About the level,
Hard for me to explained let me just give example first.
If you have 3 colony, then the level of all palace and governor will be 2
If you have 4 colony, then the level of all palace and governor will be 3
If you have 5 colony, then the level of all palace and governor will be 4
Conclusion:
Palace & Governor level is less 1 compared to total colony. This is the way to avoid corruption.
Let me give some example to avoid corruption.
You have 3 colony. Means, your Palace & Governor level is 2. When you want to found another new colony. Upgrade your Palace & Governor into level 3 first and then can start to make a new colony.
